guys i have an announcement to make. i am going to finally quit the active tournament scene as of right this minute. the reason being is that i've done everything there is to do in this area and im not good enough to break out to the next level. the lack of hardcore players like team wiseguy has also contributed a little. the other issue is that i don't have the time or money to put into the game like i used to. it was not uncommon for me to spend hours upon hours during the week just trying to figure out what i was going to tweak for the coming friday or saturday.

the main reason im walking away is because i get to do it on the terms i wanted. my last constructed tournament had me playing a red beat down deck RED DECK WINS. and i managed to achieve a ranking of 1702. and thats just it, i played the style of deck that i loved, i won with it, and i broke 1700. all great accomplishments for a guy that spent the better part of 4 years kicking around the 1500 area.

so thats it 5 years and im done. now im not ruling out a comback to the constructed ranks sometime down the road. because the last time i called it quits i eventually found my way back and i quit because of a lack of a decent job. this time i get to leave without a heavy heart.

now don't think you won't see my deck boxes around anywhere. marcus usually receives at least one of my decks for fnms or if there is a saturday standard tourney. and i plan on playing a little limited every now and then. but i will keep up with magic, i just don't have the time to throw down hardcore like i used to.

until i make my return, i expect each and every one of you to step up your game tenfold. cause over the past few months i see A LOT of potential but a lack of interest in some and lack of time in others. if you're new to the game, seth, shaun, shane, sheena, and matt OGRE mullins are the five people that won't hesitate to help you learn. up and comers like drew, cody, and jonah are not to be taken lightly as they can beat the best in the game on any given day.

the only thing about magic that i'll miss is the absolute slobberknockers that i've had with the eight people mentioned. many is a time that i've gone to a time limit draw with all of those people or one of us squeaked out a last minute victory.

travis and blake, if only i had been around when you two where in your heyday. either way, it was a pleasure to play against the both of you.

as for you new guys you need to get your friends into the game. because right now, cavalier comics is suffering hard from a lack of players. and being that there is a wide open field these days, start playing at the kitchen table and learn the game really well with your buddies or on magic online. i personally learned the overall game with my friends and learned the turn structure playing magic online. the main thing is BRING YOUR FRIENDS TO PLAY TOURNAMENTS AT CAVALIER COMICS.

so if anybody wants to learn the game i'll be happy to show you or even loan you a deck if i deem you worthy enough.

until next time, this is Nick Barnette signing off.

Yanno Nick I was thinking the exact same thing, it was a bummer we never drew each other in any of the tournies.Maybe some time down the road.

Hope those pernicious deeds get a new good home...they need alot of attention!

You know,Another way for the newer players to learn the game that can't get on Magic Online is to download something like Apprentice or Workstation. Both will help a lot of new players out in figuring out what they like to play and and provide great play testing opportunities. Both are free as well. Anyone interested, could go to: www.Magic-Online.com

there they have all the info for both and you can download either straight from the website.

As for retiring,I've tried it,but just couldn't stay away. Now I'm just going slow cause I've got no job,but looking to get back into playing again soon.

Would like to come up sometime. There is a kid who sometimes come to the shop down here to buy Naruto who plays there(by the way, here is Greeneville). We lost Magic a while back due to many things(store owner, players really ugly). The problem is,with no ride or job, hard to be able to go anywhere and play(the nearest place is Elizabethton,I think). But I will make an appearance there once here shortly, just because I've never been there.

Now that I've said my peace,I will crawl back into my hole and wait for tomorrow.

yea i tried retirement once and couldn't stay away. this time is quite a bit more serious. im not struggling for cash. i have a decent job, but the fact is that i've accomplished all that i wanted to in magic. as for the state of the game, its just not appealing to me to be as competitive as i used to be. but as far as workstation or apprentice goes, both are great tools if you know how to use them. as far as magic online goes, you don't have to buy cards to watch games and learn tricks of the trade, i just think it does wonders for some people. i myself learned turn structure while playing affinity day in and day out on there.

you can do the same on mtgo if you play somebody thats decent enough to talk shop with ya. but real life is alright. your best bet for feedback is the rooms dedicated to tournament practice or the casual rooms.
